reconditioning puhtzen to electric fences and gunshots

Puhtzin takes his job on the farm seriously. He’s a golden retriever through and through -happiest when he has a routine and a sense of purpose.

All summer, Dewey has been helping him rebuild confidence around two big things: the sound of a gunshot and working near the electric fence. It’s all R+ training — no shock, just sound, food, and celebration.

When the gun goes off, Puhtzin looks up, tail wagging, and gets a treat. When he checks the fence line and stays calm, he gets praise and another treat. Over time, those moments add up.

It’s not about obedience; it’s about trust and predictable patterns. The sound, the reward, the joy.

Now, he hears the noise and grins — because it means something good is coming.

In a world full of video clips, these photos still say the most: a happy dog, a calm moment, a job well done.

Puhtzin came from Wildwind Golden Retrievers in Rockford, Illinois — wonderful people raising solid, good-hearted goldens.
